Data Terms & Attribution
Last updated: July 3, 2026
What This Covers
These terms govern use of the Greenville Development Map and the underlying dataset it displays (the "Dataset") — building permit, planning, and development records compiled, normalized, classified, geocoded, and enriched by Pemberton Data Solutions, LLC ("we," "us"). They supplement our site-wide Terms of Service; where the two conflict, these terms control for the Dataset.
The underlying permit records are public records published by the issuing jurisdictions. The Dataset is not the raw records: it is our original compilation — cross-jurisdiction normalization, classification, deduplication, geocoding, aggregation, and enrichment. That compilation, and the map product built on it, are the property of Pemberton Data Solutions, LLC.
Permitted Use (Free)
- Browsing, searching, and filtering the map for personal, journalistic, academic, or internal business purposes.
- Quoting or screenshotting individual records, charts, or map views — with attribution (below).
- Linking to the map, to individual permits (
/map?permit=…), or to our stories. - Embedding the map widget where we provide an embed for that purpose.
Attribution
If you publish, present, or redistribute anything derived from the Dataset — an article, a report, a social post, a slide — credit it as:
"Source: Pemberton Data Solutions — pembertondata.com/map"
with a link where the medium supports one.
Prohibited Without a License
- Bulk access. Programmatically downloading, scraping, or harvesting the Dataset or the map's data endpoints (including any
/data/…URL this site serves), in whole or in substantial part. - Hotlinking. Loading the map's data files from your own site, app, tool, or model — the data endpoints exist solely to serve this site's pages.
- Resale or redistribution. Selling, licensing, syndicating, or otherwise redistributing the Dataset or any substantial extract, whether raw or repackaged.
- Competitive replication. Using the Dataset to build or train a product or service that substitutes for the map or our data feeds.
- Misrepresentation. Presenting the Dataset, or derivatives of it, as your own compilation.
We monitor access patterns, and technical controls enforce parts of these terms. If you want the data at volume, licensed properly, with contact fields and enrichment we don't publish here — that exists, and it's inexpensive relative to building it yourself: see data inquiries.
Licensed Data Feeds
We offer paid subscriptions that deliver what the free map deliberately withholds: contact names, scored and tiered lead feeds, parcel and ownership enrichment, and scheduled exports for your territory. See plans & pricing, start at the data inquiry form, or email [email protected].
Accuracy and Warranty
The Dataset is compiled from public sources that vary in quality, format, and publishing cadence. We normalize and check it, but we do not warrant completeness, accuracy, or timeliness, and the issuing jurisdiction's records are the authoritative source for any permit. The Dataset is provided "as is"; do not use it as the sole basis for legal, financial, or construction decisions. Found an error? Report a data issue.
Privacy Choices in the Dataset
We deliberately withhold or aggregate certain fields on the free map — most residential detail is aggregated to neighborhood-level cells and most contact names are withheld at the server. Do not attempt to reverse these protections.
Enforcement and Changes
We may block, rate-limit, or revoke access that violates these terms, and we may update these terms by posting a revised version here with a new "Last updated" date. Governing law and venue follow our Terms of Service (South Carolina; Greenville County courts).
